Edward Bernays was an Austrian-American pioneer considered to be The Father of public relations (also the person who coined the term P.R) and propaganda–sometimes referred to as the "father of public relations”. Bernays was a nephew of Sigmund Freud and used psychoanalytic principles all throughout his work.

He wrote several books, including "Propaganda" and "Crystallizing Public Opinion," which helped establish the field of public relations. Bernays is known for his work on behalf of companies and governments and his use of psychological techniques to influence public opinion and behavior. The design presents details from his biography, campaigns, and historical impact on the medium of advertising and P.R.

The Front Design is inspired  Barneys’s Jewish descent, his role on the Committee on Public Committee on Public Information, and his position as a political advisor for several US presidents. The design incorporates a leaf from the IDF ranks, also called “Falafel” (The factory that printed this design also prints the IDF ranks) arranged in a formation inspired by the Betsy Ross flag, an early design for the flag of the United States.

The Back and Sleeves Design introduce details from a number of mystical campaigns by Bernays:

  1. The campaign for the Beech-Nut packing company that helped make bacon and eggs the iconic American breakfast we know today, done with the help of 4,500 physicians. Watch Barneys break it down in his own words in this video.

  2. The 1929 “Torches of Freedom”  campaign for the American Tobacco Company to encourage females to smoke and break the male taboo on females smoking in public.

  3. The United Fruit Company hired Bernays in the 1940’s afterJuan José Arévalo had been elected and formally legalized the communist Guatemalan Party of Labour. The United Fruit Company (UFC), whose highly profitable business had been affected by the end to exploitative labor practices in Guatemala, engaged in an influential lobbying campaign to persuade the U.S. to overthrow the Guatemalan government.
